The Empire State Building is 91 years old this month. On May 1, 1931, U.S. President Herbert Hoover pressed the button to turn on the iconic building’s lights for the very first time. At 1,454 feet tall, the Empire State Building held the record as the tallest building in the world for nearly 40 years.
